It was pretty hot in Bella when we woke up today. Where did this heat come from?
We got ready to go and went to see the free Sculpture Garden at the New Orleans Museum of Art.
When we parked last night we thought we were pretty close to the entrance since we were right by the sign to the garden. Turns out we had parked around the back so we had to walk to the front of the garden in this heat.
It was worth it. There are 57 sculptures along a circular walkway that weaves in and out. We started on the outside and worked our way in. http://www.noma.org/sgarden
There is a variety of sculptures, some whimsical ones like a gigantic safety pin, some more traditional ones of people and animals, and some that were pretty hard to identify, even the title didn’t help. We enjoyed this experience very much.
Then we went back to the Green Project so Bernie could get a few more art supplies because they are so cheap there. Now that she’s on a painting roll it’s great to know of places like the Green Project. They even let us borrow their water hose to fill our fresh water tank. Our thanks to them! www.thegreenproject.org
Then we drove about an hour and a half to Baton Rouge LA. We now know that Baton Rouge means red stick in English. We learn all kinds of new things on this trip, even a little French.
We thought we might go to the observatory where they had free viewing of the night sky with their telescopes but by the time we got there we were both starving so we decided to skip it.
We went to a gas station and used the microwave there to heat up one of the meals Mar prepared during her last cooking marathon, and then we ate in Bella.
Then we went to check out downtown Baton Rouge and saw some places we might want to check out tomorrow.
When it was time to stop for the night, it was a bit of a challenge finding a place to park overnight around here. Finally we stopped at one of the casinos and parked for the night. We are parked right next to the Mississippi River and it is pretty warm tonight.
